As a city theatre, the Schauspiel Leipzig offers diverse stage programmes throughout the year.
The Schauspiel Leipzig sees itself as a municipal theatre for the city of Leipzig. Offering an aesthetic diversity to match the diversity defining the city of Leipzig, the theatre's style is characterised by striking artistic direction, lively debates and a wide range of accompanying events. Director Enrico Lübbe and his team have been working since 2013 to realise their concept of a progressive city theatre that reflects the diversity and breadth of interests to be found in Leipzig every day.
The theatre has three performance venues. The programme at the Schauspielhaus theatre focuses on atmospheric double plays, each of which has the same theme and where ancient times and the present are intertwined and reflect each other, as well as on interpretations of epochal classics and critical plays based on questions arising from recent history.
The Diskothek venue is exclusively dedicated to contemporary drama and the sustainable promotion of young writers.
Residenz, located in the Baumwollspinnerei Plagwitz, has also established itself internationally as a co-production and event venue for independently produced performative theatre.
Schauspiel Leipzig regularly holds performances with English surtitles for visitors to the city and international audiences.
