Rochlitz Castle

Short facts

Experience the 1,000-year history of Rochlitz Castle and discover numerous gems in the walls of the castle.

The "Lichte Jupe" and "Finstere Jupe" towers have stood in Rochlitz for more than 600 years. Rochlitz Castle was built in the 10th century as a castle to secure the victory over the Western Slavs. Later, princes ruled between warlike sieges. But Rochlitz Castle also experienced brighter times: Dedo von Groitzsch, known as "the Fat One", promoted the colonisation of the Rochlitz region. Margrave Wilhelm the One-Eyed had the castle converted into a residential palace. Duchess Elisabeth of Saxony paved the way for the Reformation during the Schmalkadic War. The lovingly restored prince's house with its stately rooms and magnificent dining hall is particularly impressive. Young and old alike can experience the history of the "forgotten Wettins" in an interactive exhibition.

With the Experience Castle Country app, you can go on an interactive multimedia tour through the historic rooms of the castle. You can also experience the famous Elisabeth von Rochlitz in augmented reality as she shows you a secret hiding place.

The Schlösserland app guarantees you a special excursion experience to suit your taste. With culinary insider tips, cycling and hiking tours or the best photo spots. For your perfect day at Rochlitz Castle. Download the app free of charge from the Apple App Store or from the Google Playstore.
