Leipzig Baumwollspinnerei

Short facts

Located in Leipzig's Lindenau district, the former cotton spinning mill, the Baumwollspinnerei has become internationally acclaimed for its contemporary art.

This former cotton spinning mill in Leipzig's Lindenau district is best known for all the different artists who have settled there and regularly exhibit their works in the galleries. As both a gallery and the artists' place of work, combined with the history of what was once Europe's largest cotton spinning mill, the Spinnerei is now also a household name on the international contemporary art scene. The Spinnerei tours are particularly popular, and several thousand visitors come to discover the site and admire the impressive exhibitions. Besides artists, the Spinnerei is also a large cultural centre: architects, designers, jewellery and fashion designers, and with the LURU cinema, the "Residenz" theatre, Druckerei and the non-profit HALLE 14.
