Geoportal - Porphyry house, Rochlitz Hill

Short facts

The "Geoportal Porphyry House" information centre is located in the former social building of the Gleisberg quarry.

Since 2023, visitors have had the opportunity to learn about the formation, mining and use of Germany's first World Heritage stone, the Rochlitz porphyry tuff, during opening hours from April to October.

Information on events and offers in the surrounding area complements a small exhibition. A special experience is a "leap in time" into the history of stone quarrying using VR glasses.

The "green classroom" offers children's groups and school classes many opportunities to experience nature first-hand and learn about local geology and geological history.

The Porphyry House geoportal is part of the "Porphyry nature trail" around Rochlitzer Berg. The forest playground and the national geotope "Gleisbergbruch" with the historical number wall are located in the immediate vicinity.
