Allotment gardens originated in Leipzig. The German Allotment Garden Museum introduces you to the exciting history of the Schreber movement.


It is hard to imagine German cities without allotment gardens as small, private recreational areas for their owners.

The allotment garden movement has a varied history of more than 200 years, which has its origin in Leipzig and is documented in the exhibition in the Deutsches Kleingärtnermuseum in a way that is unique in the world. The permanent exhibition offers an overview of these interesting and suspenseful development and, starting from the beginnings of the various lines of origin, shows the development of the allotment garden movement up to the present day. In the listed garden area, three show gardens illustrate the development of small gardens. Guided tours for groups of 20 people are possible at any time by appointment.
