The "Mückenschlösschen" restaurant is located directly between the Rosental and the Waldstraßenviertel (or Forest Street Quarter). This gives it the ideal position, with the unique park and pasture landscape on one side and the Waldstraßenviertel, Germany's largest connected Wilhelminian style buildings, on the other. The Leipzig Mückenschlösschen is one of the few remaining historic restaurants outside the city centre. It has a long and varied history, but its hospitable charm remains. The name "Mückenschlösschen" is derived from a legend in which August the Strong was riding along the nearby meadow in search of a building site, when he was so viciously attacked by mosquitoes that he fell off his horse and abandoned his building plans. The people of Leipzig were delighted because they did not want him to build a castle in Rosental.
