On the go with tents and camper vans in the Leipzig Region

If you have always wanted to spend the night under the stars and jump in a lake as soon as you wake up, then the Leipzig region is the place for you. The best way to enjoy an exciting nature experience on holiday is to go camping. Whether you are looking for a smaller campsite or a large park for your caravan, camper van or tent, from cosy to luxurious, you will find your personal paradise in the Leipzig region.

Well away from the noise and daily stress of hectic city life but still close by, Leipzig's campsites and parking bays for motorhomes welcome visitors to spend some time exploring the local area. You can read about six of the best sites in our blog entitled "Travelling With a Tent or Camper Van in the Leipzig Region".

Seepark Auenhain Holiday Resort at Lake Markkleeberg

A lakeside holiday without missing out on everything the city of Leipzig has to offer? The 5-star holiday resort Seepark Auenhain with its holiday cottages and caravan parking makes it easy to do both. The holiday resort blends idyllically into the landscape directly above Lake Markkleeberg. Its proximity not only to Markkleeberg Canoe Park and the BELANTIS Adventure Kingdom theme park but also to Leipzig city centre makes Seepark Auenhain the ideal base for exploring both the trade fair city and the Leipzig New Lake District.

Each of the six caravan spaces has an electrical connection and is paved. Guests can use the showers, washing machine and dryer in the "Waschbär House". The wellness oasis "Haus Seestern" and the "Vital am See" massage and beauty area can be accessed for a fee. Furthermore, the Restaurant Seeperle offers a surprisingly delicious range of local Saxon and international dishes. For meat lovers, we recommend the Seeperle restaurant's culinary highlight of bison in a variety of preparations.

The camping pitches are located either directly on the lakeshore or in the neighbouring accommodation area and the showers, washrooms and toilets are easily accessible from everywhere.

At Lake Schladitz, water sports and culture are top priorities. In the resort's own aquatic sports centre, there are numerous activities for you to choose from. Camping & Caravaning in O-Schatz Park in Oschatz

Ready for a family camping trip? Then the Camping and Caravaning Site in Oschatz is the place for you. The campsite is located on the premises of the European Youth Camp at O-Schatz Park, a zoo and family amusement park that is free of charge. Its origins date back to the 4th Saxon State Garden Show in 2006. Right in the middle of the Oschatz district but surrounded by greenery, it is the perfect location to spend a few entertaining and relaxing days. A number of supply stations with electricity, water and wastewater hook-ups as well as a building with sanitary facilities are also available for your use. The barbeque area with seating and a large recreation room with board games are great places to hang out for a while.

A mere 5-minute walk and you are in the city centre, where you can take a stroll, do some shopping or enjoy an ice cream. We recommend a visit to St. Aegidien Church with its historic apartment in the watchman's tower. After climbing over 199 steps, you will be rewarded with an amazing view and a cup of hot coffee known as a "Schälchen Heeßen". If you would rather go in search of pure relaxation, try a visit to the "Platsch" leisure pool with its attractive sauna area. The campsite is also an ideal starting point for cycling and walking tours to Dahlen Heath and the Wermsdorf Woods. A trip on the  "Wilder Robert" Döllnitz Railway is also worthwhile.

Neumühle Lakeside Campsite in Schildau

In Schildau, you can walk in the footsteps of the famous "Schildbürger" pranksters! The Pranksters' Trail tells their story with twelve information points at historic locations throughout the village. According to history, the pranksters pretended to be stupid to avoid having to work as servants although they were famed far and wide for their intelligence. At the only Schildbürger Museum in Germany, you can see an extensive collection of books about the Schildbürger pranksters and a model of their legendary three-cornered town hall without windows. From the top of the 26-metre Schildberg Tower, you can take in the beautiful view over Dahlen Heath. From here, it is also easy to reach the Elbe Cycle Path in nearby Torgau.

After an eventful day, your best bet is to pitch your tent at the campsite near Schildau. This spacious campsite borders on the Neumühle lakeside bathing area. Both long- and short-term campers are very welcome. The modern sanitary facilities provide all the amenities you need for a relaxing stay. You can cool off in the adventure pool or take a refreshing dip in the natural pool. Last but not least, a small restaurant with a view of the lake ensures you won't go to bed hungry.

Kriebstein Dam Campsite

You would like to travel in the Leipzig region with your tent or camper van to enjoy the peace and quiet of pure nature while also staying active? Then the Kriebstein Dam is the place for you. The idyllic woodland campsite in Kriebstein is the perfect base for exploring the surrounding recreational area. It provides 50 spaces for tourists. The site is terraced and equipped with sanitary facilities. What is more, it is located only 200 metres from the shore of the reservoir.

There is also plenty to do. The lakeside stage with performances by the Central Saxony Theater and other groups is really close by. The stone wall of the dam and Kriebstein harbour are also only a stone's throw away. You can explore the natural lakeshore areas and floodplain forests on a boat tour or paddle across the reservoir in a rented canoe or rowing boat. Various hiking routes of different lengths along this popular fishing lake offer breathtaking views.

Furthermore, for anyone interested in culture we recommend a visit to Kriebstein Castle. It sits enthroned on a high rocky massif above the river Zschopau and is considered the most beautiful knight's castle in Saxony.

Camper Van Parking at WelWel in Döbeln

Are you so into cycling that you can't wait to explore the Mulde Bike Trail? The best way to start your journey is to park your camper van in Döbeln. There are a total of three spaces for camper vans in the grounds of the "WelcomeWellness" Sports and Leisure Centre (WelWel). The parking spaces were created in 2013 and are located not far from the Freiberger Mulde river. You can park your vehicle there on gravel or grass and use the water and electricity for a small fee. The WelWel also has a restaurant, a bowling alley and a miniature golf course.

Döbeln's lively town centre is about 1.3 kilometres away. There, you can join the Mulde Bike Trail and cycle all the way to Leisnig or Grimma. For the journey back, there is a local train. Döbeln itself is a charming small town with a wide selection of cultural and leisure activities. The original Döbeln giant boot and the City Museum are housed in the town hall. On the first Saturday of each month, you can enjoy a leisurely ride through the town centre on the historic horse tramway.
